About The House Share Hub
“The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go and not be questioned.”
– Maya Angelou
Hi there, I’m the person behind The House Share Hub 👋
Like a lot of people living in big cities, I’ve spent a good chunk of my adult life living in house shares.
I’ve lived with friends. I’ve lived with strangers. I’ve lived in houses where the norm is an early morning gym session and a cup of tea before bed. And I’ve lived in houses where Tuesday-night parties raging into the early hours are completely normal.
House sharing often comes with change – changing housemates, changing dynamics, and the feeling of being constantly on top of each other. In a world where housing affordability is tough and many of us work from home, our house needs to be a place where we feel safe, trust and appreciate the people we live with, and can function in a calm and peaceful way (with a bit of fun here and there of course!).
What I’ve learned over a decade of living with housemates is: most house share problems aren’t about bad people or ill intentions. They’re about unclear expectations, mismatched habits, and homes that don’t have simple tools in place to make everyday life run smoothly.
And when life is already busy with work, relationships, and everything else, your home should be the place that reduces stress (not adds to it).
At the end of the day, whilst there are many things out of our control as renters in shared homes (the housing market, noisy neighbours, slow landlords, to name a few), what we can control is how we choose to live together.
And there are more ways to do that than you’d expect.
That’s why I created The House Share Hub.
Why The House Share Hub Exists
House sharing is often framed in two extremes:
- Either it’s romanticised as a sitcom-style experience (if only we all lived with a zealously clean Monica, or a fun-loving Joey)
- Or it’s talked about like a nightmare and test of endurance
As most people living in shared housing know, the reality sits somewhere in the middle.
Shared living can genuinely feel like you’re living in a coming-of age film about friendship and growth. It can create community, connection, and a sense of belonging in big cities where it’s easy to feel lonely and lost.
But it also comes with very real challenges – cleaning, money, shared spaces, boundaries, and communication.
The House Share Hub exists to help you navigate those everyday realities with less awkwardness and more ease.
No judgements. No unrealistic fantasies. No housemate-bashing. Just practical ideas to make shared homes work better for people living in them.
